Melamine panels and edge banding

Melamine is cut with a scoring blade or a fine-tooth blade to avoid chipping the face. Every visible edge needs edge banding: mark the edges on each part and the total length is calculated, with about 10% extra for trimming.

For wood-look decors, keep the grain in the same direction on doors and sides so the furniture looks right.

What is the standard size of a melamine board?

2800 × 2070 mm is the most common in Europe, Africa and the Middle East; 2750 × 1830 and 2440 × 1220 mm are also sold.

Is melamine the same as MDF?

No. Melamine is a decorative paper face; the core is usually particleboard (MFC), sometimes MDF.
