Trash Can Cabinet Plans
A trash can cabinet that hides the kitchen bin: the front is hinged at the bottom and carries a holder for the bin, so it tilts out when you pull the handle and closes flush. The defaults fit a 13-gallon kitchen bin in a cabinet 450 mm (17 3/4 in) wide at counter height; make it 750 mm or more wide for a trash bin and a recycling bin side by side.

How it is built
- Hinge the front at the bottom with two butt hinges or a tilt-out hinge set, and fit a chain or a strap that stops it at about 30°.
- Screw the bin holder to the back of the front through the holder sides, so it tilts out with the front.
- Fit a magnetic catch at the top and a handle near the top edge of the front.
Common mistakes
- Skipping the stop: the front falls open and the bin tips out.
- Choosing a bin taller than the opening: it catches on the top as the front tilts. Keep 50 mm clear.
Tools you need
- Circular saw or table saw
- Drill/driver
- Clamps
Frequently asked questions
What size trash can fits?
The holder takes a bin up to the inside width shown in the cut list, about 360 mm (14 in) at the default width, and up to about 650 mm (25 in) tall. A standard 13-gallon kitchen bin fits; measure yours.
How far does the front tilt?
About 30°, held by a chain or a strap: enough to drop trash in and lift the bag out. Fit the stop before the first use.
Can it hold two bins?
Yes: at 750 mm (30 in) wide or more, two bins stand side by side in the holder, one for trash and one for recycling.
Does it need a lid?
No: the closed cabinet keeps smells in and pets out. Drill a few vent holes in the back if the bin gets damp.
