Sewing Table Plans
A big work surface for sewing, crafts or cutting fabric, standing on two storage towers with shelves for bins, fabric and machines. The middle stays open for your legs when you sit, and the top overhangs the towers so you can clamp to it. Set it at sitting or standing height. It works as a sewing table, a craft table or a fabric cutting table.

How it is built
- The two towers are boxes with a back; the top overhangs them by 30 mm all round.
- A modesty panel under the back edge between the towers ties them together and stops racking.
- Screw the top on from inside the towers so it can be replaced.
Common mistakes
- Leaving too little room between the towers for your knees: keep at least 600 mm.
- Making a cutting table at sitting height: cutting fabric needs 860–910 mm.
Tools you need
- Track saw or table saw
- Drill/driver
- Clamps
- Edge banding iron
Frequently asked questions
What height should a sewing table be?
720–760 mm (28–30 in) for sewing sitting down; 860–910 mm (34–36 in) for cutting fabric standing up.
How big should a craft table be?
At least 1500 × 750 mm (60 × 30 in); a cutting table for fabric is often 1800 × 900 mm or more.
Can I sink the sewing machine into the top?
Yes: cut an opening the size of the machine bed in the top and fit a shelf under it at the height that brings the bed flush with the table.
